Jail Alternatives (AWP and Home Detention)
The Sheriff’s Jail Alternatives Unit offers a Home Detention Program (HD), and an Alternative Work Program (AWP). HD allows an inmate to serve their sentence in their Stanislaus County home and continue to work at their regular job. Participation Eligibility Criteria
The evaluation of the applicant is a continuation of the classification process. Jail Alternatives staff will ensure that placement will be in the best interest of public safety.
Individuals applying for the either program will be considered on a case by case basis. The evaluation will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, the severity of the current charge, criminal history, prior participation in the program, and in-custody behavior.
Approval or denial is at the sole discretion of the Sheriff’s Department. These programs are a privilege, not a right.
