ARREST MADE IN CONNECTION WITH MAY 3, 2009 HOMICIDE

MODESTO, CA - Detectives have made an arrest in the May 3, 2009 shooting that killed one person and injured another person. Today Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Detectives arrested Matthew REYES, 19 years old of Modesto in connection with the shooting and homicide. REYES was at the Stanislaus County Superior Courthouse in downtown Modesto for a pervious case when he was arrested for murder and attempted murder in the May 3 shooting.

The May 3 shooting happened shortly after 1:00AM behind the auction yard on Main Street and Pecos Avenue in Modesto. As deputies arrived on scene, they located two male victims in there 20’s that had been shot. One of the victims was unconscious inside of a vehicle as the vehicle began to catch on fire. Two deputies were able to pull the victim out of the burning vehicle before he sustained further injuries from the fire. Both shooting victims were transported to Modesto area hospitals. One victim died from his injuries a few days after the shooting and the other was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released from the hospital.
