WATERFORD, CA - The manhunt for wanted murder suspect Erick Vogel has
ended with his capture.
At about 10:00 PM on Saturday night The Stanislaus County Sheriff's
Department received an anonymous tip from a person that believed Erick
Vogel was possibly hiding at a residence in the 12000 block of Bentley
Street in Waterford.
As the deputies were driving into the area they were flagged down by a
citizen who asked if they were looking for Vogel. The citizen said
Vogel had just been seen walking into an alley on "A" Street in
Waterford.
Deputies, including Deputy Dave Thompson and his K-9 "Smoke", began
searching the area. "Smoke" led the deputies to some bushes near the
alley and they believed a person was hiding inside. There was no
response to commands, therefore "Smoke" was sent into the bushes. At
about 10:50 PM "Smoke" found Vogel concealed within the bushes and he
was taken into custody without further incident.
Vogel was transported to a local hospital to be treated for minor
injuries sustained during the K-9 apprehension. Modesto Police
detectives were advised of Vogel's capture and he was booked at the
Stanislaus County Jail after his treatment. The case remains under
active investigation.
