INMATE ESCAPES FROM WORK CREW

April 23, 2009



MODESTO, CA - The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in locating an inmate who walked away from an outside work crew. The incident occurred this morning at about 9:00 AM when the inmate, Darren Ray WAID, 19-years-old of Modesto, walked away from John Thurman Field located at 601 Neece Drive in Modesto. WAID was part of an 8-person inmate work crew that was being supervised by a City of Modesto employee. The supervisor noticed WAID was missing and called the police. Officers from Modesto Police, the California Highway Patrol, and Sheriff deputies searched the area but were unable to locate WAID.

WAID’s description: 5’04”, 125 pounds, brown hair, brown eyes. He was last seen wearing at blue shirt and blue jeans. WAID was in custody for Obstructing a Peace Officer, Evading a Peace Officer, Receiving Stolen Property, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He was sentenced to 345 days.
