WATERFORD, CA - Two Waterford Police Deputies working together were able to track down a thief who burglarized a church and recover a stolen electronic piano. Yesterday, Deputy Marcia Matos responded to the First Baptist Church in the 500 block of C Street in Waterford for a reported burglary. The church reported that someone had broken into the church overnight and had stolen an electronic piano valued at approximately $1,500. During the investigation, Deputy Matos was able to contact a witness and obtain information about a vehicle of interest and identified Joseph WILLIS as a person of interest.
At the end of Deputy Matos shift, she briefed Deputy Jesse Ruelas, who was starting the night shift, of her investigation and that WILLIS was a person of interest in the church burglary. Early this morning shortly before 2:00am, Deputy Ruelas spotted WILLIS driving in the City of Waterford. Deputy Ruelas conducted a traffic stop on WILLIS for a traffic violation. During Deputy Ruelas investigation, he obtained information leading him to a residence in the 13100 block of Welch in the City of Waterford. While at the residence, Deputy Ruelas located the stolen electronic piano taken from the church.
Joseph Lee WILLIS, 23-years-old of Waterford, was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for receiving stolen property and parole violation. The investigation is ongoing and deputies hope to make more arrests in this case.
