NEWMAN, CA - A Deputy Sheriff patrolling the Delta-Mendota Canal discovered a body in the water this morning shortly before 10:00am. The body was discovered in the water near one of the canal gates, south of Shields Road near the City of Newman. The Sheriff’s Dive Team responded and removed the male victim from the canal at 12:30 this afternoon. The Sheriff’s Department Coroner’s Unit will conduct an investigation for confirming the identification and the cause of death of the male victim
Deputies have been patrolling the canal as part of an on-going search of Mario Raul TAGRE, 54-years-old of Modesto, who was reported missing last Saturday. TAGRE went fishing at the Delta-Mendota Canal in the early morning hours last Saturday. When he did not come home Saturday afternoon, family reported him missing. A Sheriff’s Deputy found TAGRE’s vehicle near the canal.
