RIVERBANK POLICE WARN PARENTS AND SCHOOLS OF TWO ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPINGS

RIVERBANK, CA - Riverbank Police deputies are investigating two reports of attempted kidnappings. The first incident occurred yesterday afternoon and a second incident this morning. The victim from today’s incident was able to provided detectives with a good description of the suspect. Detectives followed up on several good suspect leads, but were unable to locate the suspect.

The first incident occurred Thursday, January 8, 2009 while an 11-year-old female student was walking home from California Avenue School. She was approached by two clean shaven Hispanic males in their 30’s or 40’s. Both were wearing black hooded sweatshirts, with the hoods on. They were driving an older, white, four door compact sedan. The vehicle had tinted windows in the front and back. The rear passenger side bumper had a dent. The vehicle approached the victim from behind as she was walking westbound California Ave. from Central Ave. The passenger opened his door and told the victim that her mom called and told them to pick her up. The victim started running westbound California Ave. to her Grandmother’s residence. The suspects in the vehicle followed her for a short distance and then left the area.

The second incident occurred this morning while an 11-year-old female student was walking to Cardozo Middle School. The victim was accosted by a male subject in the area of 8th Street and Patterson Road in Riverbank. The suspect grabbed the victim by the right arm. The victim kicked the suspect in the “private parts” and was able to get away. The suspect is described as a white male with a tan, approximately 25-years-old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair and clean shaven. He was wearing an orange baseball cap, an orange waist length jacket, and tan pants. The jacket was had a zipper up the front and some type of the jacket patch on the chest area.
