MAN SHOT AND PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE; SUSPECT IN CUSTODY

January 6, 2009

MODESTO, CA - A man was found shot in the alley near a southeast Modesto home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

At about 2:30 AM patrol officers were dispatched to the alley behind the 200 block of Kelley Street to the report of a male who was down. When they arrived they found a man, in his 30's, with a possible gunshot wound lying near the front of an alley-facing residence.

At about 5:40 AM Stanislaus County Sheriff's Deputy Jeff Dirkse saw a suspicious vehicle in the area of Crowslanding Road and Winmore Avenue. After making a traffic stop he learned that the vehicle was associated with the residence where the homicide had occurred. The two male occupants were detained and detectives conducted an extensive investigation over the past 12 hours. Detectives developed information linking one of the males in the vehicle to the Kelley Street homicide. Donaciano Rocha Ocegueda, a 37-year-old Modesto resident, was arrested in connection with the homicide and will be booked at the Stanislaus County jail. The investigation is continuing at this time.

The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Modesto resident Ricky Dale Conway, Jr (date of birth 11/10/75).
