MODESTO, CA - Two Modesto Police Officers had to shoot at a suspect as the suspect drove in the direction of the officers with a vehicle. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, Modesto Police Department, and District Attorneys Office are investigating the incident that occurred shortly after 9:30 PM on Christmas Eve in the 300 block of S. Santa Cruz Avenue in Modesto.
Two Modesto Police Officers were on an unrelated incident in the 300 block of S. Santa Cruz when a male victim approached them asking for help. The victim told officers that he had just been a victim of a robbery. The suspect got into the victim’s vehicle and drove in the direction of the officers. The officers fired shots at the suspect vehicle as it approached them. The suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree in the 300 block of S. Santa Cruz Avenue. The suspect then fled on foot, but was apprehended Modesto Police Officers after a short foot pursuit. The suspect has been identified as MORGAN, Lawrence 10/20/1965 of Ceres. MORGAN was not shot, but was transported to a local hospital to be medically cleared due to injuries sustained during the arrest. MORGAN was booking on the following charges; attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, auto theft, and parole violation. He his being held at the Stanislaus County Men’s Jail.
The victim of the robbery was also transported to a local hospital due to injuries he received during the robbery. The Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident because it occurred in the county jurisdiction. The Modesto Police Department is also conducting an investigating into the officer-involved shoot, which is standard procedure.
