DETECTIVES ARREST PARENTS IN THE DEATH OF THEIR 16-MONTH-OLD CHILD

December 9, 2008

MODESTO, CA - Sheriff’s Detectives arrested the parents of a 16-month-old late yesterday after a weeklong investigation. Andrew PAFFENDORF and Alicia PAFFENDORF, both 22-years-old from Modesto, were arrested by detectives for the abuse and death of their 16-month-old son Andrew PAFFENDORF (unknown if he is a junior).

On December 2, 2008 the fire department and EMS responded to the 3600 block of Crows Landing Road for a report of a child not breathing. The location of the house is across the street from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department and several deputies and detectives heard the call and also responded. As the deputies arrived, they assisted EMS personnel on scene. The child was transported to a local hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Detectives that responded to the home noticed suspicious injuries on the child’s body. An autopsy was conducted and the detectives continued to investigate where and how the child received the injuries. Yesterday, after a weeklong investigation, detectives arrested both parents. The father, Andrew PAFFENDORF, was arrested for Murder and Assault on a Child Causing Great Bodily Injury or Death and is being held at Jail with a no bail hold. Alicia PAFFENDORF was arrested for Causing Willful Harm to a Child and is being held at the Public Safety Center with a bail of $25,000.
