CA- Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 25-year-old
Bryan Smith of Modesto this afternoon after he attempted to run over
a Sheriff’s deputy. The incident occurred in the 600 block of South
7th Street with is know for high drug activity.
The incident began about 2:00 pm when two deputies were conducting
proactive foot patrol at a mobile home park in the 600 block of
South 7th Street in Modesto. The deputies noticed a male subject
sitting in a car and was possibly involved in some type of drug
activity. As the deputies approached the car, the driver, Bryan
Smith, put the car into drive and accelerated towards one of the
deputy’s. The other deputy fired one gunshot towards Smith’s
car fearing for his partner’s safety. The gunshot hit the car, but
did not injure Smith, who continued to drive away. Both deputies
got into their patrol cars and pursued the suspect. Smith drove for
a short distance and stopped his car at the intersection of 7th
Street and Crows Landing Road where deputies took him into custody.
Officers from the Modesto Police Department and California Highway
Patrol also responded and assisted Sheriff’s deputies. Smith
is being charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a peace
officer and probation violation and will be booked into the
Stanislaus County Jail.
