Chief Spencer graduated from the Modesto Police Academy and began his law enforcement career in 1981 upon being hired as a police officer for the City of Patterson. From 1981 through 1995, Chief Spencer has worked as a patrol officer, field training officer, detective, sergeant, lieutenant and commander within the Patterson Police Department. In 1995 Chief Spencer was appointed as Chief of Police of the Patterson Police Department. In 1998 the City of Patterson Police Department was consolidated into the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department resulting in the formation of Patterson Police Services of the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department. Chief Spencer has continued in the appointed position as the City of Patterson's Chief of Police and was also designated the Area Commander of West Stanislaus County by Sheriff Weidman. Chief Spencer is responsible for the management of the Sheriff's Departments law enforcement services in the City of Patterson and in the unincorporated area of West Stanislaus County. Chief Spencer has obtained a AS degree in Administration of Justice and a BA and MS degree in Management. Chief Spencer is also a 1994 graduate of the POST Command College. |

In 1998 the City of
Patterson Police Department was consolidated into the Stanislaus
County Sheriff's Department resulting in the formation of Patterson
Police Services of the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department.
Chief Tyrone Spencer has continued in the appointed position as the City of
Patterson's Chief of Police and was also designated the Area Commander
of West Stanislaus County by Sheriff Weidman. Chief Spencer is
responsible for the management of the Sheriff's Departments law
enforcement services in the City of Patterson and in the
unincorporated area of West Stanislaus County.
Patterson Police Services of the Stanislaus County Sheriffs Department, provides the City of Patterson, population 14,000 with a wide range of municipal law enforcement services including, but not limited to; Administration, Patrol, Traffic Enforcement, Investigations, Records Management, Training, Recruitment, Specialized Enforcement Teams, and Citizen Volunteer Programs. The Department fields two patrol deputies per 12 hour shift, around the clock, which is oftentimes augmented with area deputies who utilize the Department as the West County Sub-Station. The Patterson City Council, through its City Manager, provides local direction and control of the Department, which allows the City to enjoy the benefits and resources of the Sheriffs Department while at the same time allowing the City to retain, in effect, its local law enforcement autonomy. |
