The West County Area Command is a vast and diverse area of Stanislaus County. Encompassing approximately 400 square miles, the West County Area Command is home to two incorporated cities, Patterson; population 14,000 and Newman; population 6,000 and three unincorporated cites, Westley, Grayson, and Crows Landing. The Patterson station serves as police headquarters for the City, as well as the West County Area Command Sub-Station. State Highway 33 and Interstate 5 traverse West Stanislaus County from the North and South.

The City of Crows Landing has a Sheriff's Department Sub-Station utilized by patrol deputies and STAR's staff. The City of Westley has a significant residential population housed by the Stanislaus County Housing Authority. This area receives patrol services from Deputy Wagner DeFreitas. In addition to the two "community" deputies in Crows Landing and Westley, the unincorporated area is patrolled by a regular beat deputy, commonly referred to as the "five-beat deputy"

The predominant industry in the West County Area Command is agriculture. Thousands of acres of row crops and orchard stock are in continuous production throughout the year. Commercial large scale farming operations are the norm, with many smaller family-run operations dotting the area as well.

Local recreation is provided through County-owned parks, namely Laird Park near Grayson, and Frank Rains Park located at 15001 Del Puerto Canyon Rd. in Del Puerto Canyon. Fishing in the San Joaquin River is also popular, with several public fishing access areas available to the public.

The beautiful oak-tree studded hills of West Stanislaus County are also home to Diablo Grande, an upscale golf resort which, at completion, will boast executive resort homes, a hotel, restaurant, winery, and PGA-rated golf courses. Diablo Grande is located at 10007 Oak Flat Rd.

West Stanislaus County is represented in government by Jim DeMartini (when he takes office in November) District 5, Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors.
