Chief Janet Rasmussen is a native of
California and a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership
Institute. She possesses an Associate's of Science Degree in Criminal
Justice and is pursuing a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Occupational
Studies at California State University Long Beach. She began her career
in law enforcement in 1975 and joined the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s
Department in July of 1991. Chief Rasmussen has worked a wide variety of
assignments in her law enforcement career, which include working as the
Interim-Director of the Stanislaus Regional 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatch
Center, the facility Commander of the Men’s Jail and the Honor Farm,
and in Patrol as a Deputy Sheriff-Coroner, a Field Training Officer and
as a Sergeant. She became a member of the Department’s Hostage
Negotiation Team, and later become the team leader.
Prior to joining Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department, Chief Rasmussen worked as a Dispatcher, a Reserve Police Officer, a Deputy Sheriff-Coroner in Adult Detention and Patrol, a Narcotics Detective and as a Sergeant in Adult Detention and Patrol for Tulare Police Department and Tulare County Sheriff's Department. Chief Rasmussen has devoted a lot of her time to training law enforcement personnel and served as a regional trainer for the State of California Governor's Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training in Arrest and Control. She also served as a proctor for Ray Simon Regional Training Center in both Firearms and Defensive Tactics. Chief Rasmussen is a certified instructor in Firearms, Defensive Tactics, ASP Expandable Baton and Oleoresin Capsicum (pepper spray) and she has given presentations to a number of community groups on Safety Awareness. Chief Rasmussen is currently assigned to Hughson Police Services and is also the South Area Commander. |
