SOUTH AREA - Denair

| In April of
1993 the first community officer was assigned to Denair. Denair
was the third community in Stanislaus County to have it's own
officer. Subsequently, there was much discussion regarding the
organization of a committee to look into the possibility of opening a
Sheriff's Sub-Station in Denair. A committee was then formed to
look into the possibility of opening a Sheriff's Sub-Station in
Denair. After several meetings, the committee agreed upon a site
in Denair's Village Shopping Center, and the first Community Sheriff's
Sub-Station was opened in December of 1994. Community
members began raising funds to supplement utility and office expenses
for the new office. Fund raisers, such as yard sales, donation
solicitations, drawings and more recently the annual dinner were
initiated by the committee. In January of 1997, the California
Highway Patrol assigned an officer to Denair's forces. The
future of the Denair Sheriff's Sub-Station is very positive. In
1998, Sheriff Les Weidman assigned Lt. Bill Welch as the South Area
Commander.
The Denair Substation was founded on January 1, 1995 during a municipal advisory committee meeting. Four people started raising funds to initiate the substation. The money was raised through garage sales. Once enough money was raised, the committee approached the Sheriff to put a substation in Denair to serve the population of approximately 3500. On February 28, 2003 the Denair Substation moved to its new location at 4708 Main Street. |
