NORTHWEST AREA - Salida

The sub-station is located in the former Union Pacific Bank Building that was remodeled and expanded by the county to provide enhanced public protection in northwest Stanislaus County and the growing community of Salida.

"I'm proud of the great accomplishments in the community of Salida and I see this as a great opportunity to better serve the citizens of the community," said Weidman.

"The new Sheriff's building in Salida is yet another positive indicator of the progress that this community is experiencing. It significantly enhances the level of security that Sheriff Weidman, Lt. Jane Irwin and their deputies are able to provide our district of the County," said Supervisor Jeff Grover, who represents the area on the Board.

The Salida Sheriff's Substation had it's grand opening on February 3, 2003.  The staff at that time consisted of one STARS volunteer.  Presently our staff consists of an Area Commander, six Salida community deputies, one Del Rio community deputy, a community service officer and  5 STARS volunteers.

Salida is a rapidly growing community.   In 1990 the population was approximately 4000 residents, and in 2001 there were over 18,000 residents.  It is the largest unincorporated town and is larger than several incorporated cities.

Some of the activities that our Salida Deputies are involved with include:  Neighborhood Watch, Town Watch, Salida Town and Country Parade and Festival, National Night Out, Salida Safety Fair, as well as many school and community functions.

Services provided by the Salida Sheriff's Substation include: Megan's law access, bike and foot patrol, office reports taken, a meeting hall, a community bulletin board, and a general informing of the community.
