The Northeast Area Command is boundaried on the west by the city of Riverbank, on the south by Claribel Road, on the north by Highway 4 and to the east by the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.

The Northeast Area Command contains two incorporated cities:  Oakdale and Riverbank, the latter is one of the Sheriff's Department Contract Cities.  There is also the small farming community of Valley Home and the historical community of Knights Ferry, located on the north bank of the Stanislaus River.  This area is primarily agricultural consisting of orchards, dairies, and grazing land and is bisected by the Stanislaus River, which is a major source of recreation in the region.

The US Army Corp of Engineers manages the resources of the river and its "String of Pearls", which consists of several parks adjacent to the river, extending from Knights Ferry to the city of Ripon.  The Corps' headquarters are located in Knights Ferry and its park rangers are on duty seven days a week; in the summer, the rangers are assisted by the Sheriff's deputies who provide contract law enforcement services in the parks.  Woodward Reservoir is located north of the city of Oakdale and provides both recreational activity and irrigation water for the area.  From late spring to early fall, Sheriff's deputies provide general law enforcement services to the lake area and its surrounding park land and campground.
