COMMUNITY POLICING
|
The Sheriff's Department is a law enforcement organization based upon a philosophy of community policing. Although the phrase "community policing" is a relatively new term to law enforcement, the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department has been practicing community policing for the past 30 years. The department prides itself on its responsiveness to the community. This is particularly evident in the Patrol Division of the Sheriff's Department and how our law enforcement service is delivered to the citizens of Stanislaus County. The county is geographically divided up into six sectors. |
| There is a sub-station located in each of these command sectors and a Patrol lieutenant is assigned to each of these command sectors. The Central Command sector has two sub-stations, one in the community of Empire and the other sub-station is located in the City of Hughson, which contracts with the Sheriff's Department for law enforcement services. There are three other cities which also contract with the Sheriff for law enforcement services and there also are sub-stations for their respective command sectors. They are the City of Riverbank, which is in the Northeast Command sector, the City of Waterford, which is in the Southeast Command sector, the City of Patterson, which is in the West Command sector. Each lieutenant assigned to these sectors works closely with the community in identifying problems and working towards solutions for community problems. There are also a number of Patrol deputies that are assigned specifically to these areas and these deputies specialize in problem-solving within their assigned sector, as well as their regular first-response patrol duties. |
|
| In addition to these community specific deputies assigned to a certain sector, and deputies assigned to the cities of Riverbank, Patterson, Waterford and Hughson, service is delivered to those citizens living in the unincorporated areas of Stanislaus County from the Sheriff's Operations Center on Hackett Road, in South Modesto. The Patrol Detail out the the Sheriff's Operations Center provides 24-hour coverage around the clock for those citizens of Stanislaus County living in unincorporated areas of the county. Those deputies working out of the Sheriff's Operations Center Patrol Detail are also assigned to specific beats within Stanislaus County and work closely with those community specific deputies in those sectors. | |

All Patrol deputies of the Sheriff's Department are trained in community policing and problem solving. All Patrol deputies tackle specific problems within their assigned beat areas. The Patrol Division of the Sheriff's Department operates under the mantra that the cornerstone of community policing is public safety. Sheriff's deputies patrolling the streets of Stanislaus County deliver this first-responder law enforcement service with courage, compassion, and common sense. We have been delivering community policing a long long time before the phrase was popular. |
