The victim, Luis Varelas, 34 yrs old at the time of his death and was living in Gustine, CA. Varelas was found shot to death in the rural area of Newman on 7-24-90. The suspect was identified as being Maximilano Lopez Solorio. Follow-up investigation revealed that suspect, Maximilano Lopez Solorio, had made a deal with Varelas to buy marijuana for $25,000.00. Solorio met Varelas near a ranch where Solorio used to work. Varelas was robbed and killed at that location. Solorio fled the scene and showed a witness the money he had obtained from the robbery/murder. Solorio fled the area and moved back to Mexico, his whereabouts are unknown. Solorio wears prescription glasses and has a surgical scar on his back. A warrant was issued for Maximilano Lopez Solorio on 8-28-90. No reward has been offered. The weapon was not recovered.
