The victim, Antonio Espinoza, 54 years old at the time of his death was living in Modesto. Espinoza was working at his business, Tony's Pool Hall, 1352 Paradise Road, Modesto, CA, when he was shot and killed by suspects, Rene Alvardo Cardenas and his brother, Jose Tapia Lozano Cardenas on 5/28/1988.

Follow-up investigation revealed that the suspects had conspired to rob the victim which resulted in the victim being shot. Both Cardenas brothers fled to Mexico, whereabouts are unknown. The weapon was not recovered.

The suspects were identified as following:

Suspect #1 - Rene Alvardo Cardenas: aka: Rene Alvarado, "El Torro", Rene Carinas-Alvarado, Rene Alvara Cardenas. (photo from 1987)

Suspect #2 - Jose Tapia Lozano Cardenas: aka: Jose Cardenas, Jose Tapia, Jose Lozano, Jose Tapia Lozano. (Age at time of murder was 22 years old).

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives. The Espinoza family is asking for your help in bringing this killer to justice. No reward has been offered.
