The Stanislaus County Sheriffs Department Drug Abuse Resistance Education program is a comprehensive anti-drug curriculum taught to students by specially-trained veteran Deputy Sheriffs. Since 1990, through the cooperative effort of the Sheriffs Office and the Stanislaus County Office of Education, over 10,000 students have received the D.A.R.E. program. Lessons focus on providing information about tobacco, alcohol and other drugs; teaching students decision-making skills; showing them how to resist peer pressure; giving them ideas for alternatives to drug use. |
The DARE curriculum consists of:
Independent evaluations show students have learned to resist drugs and combat peer pressure. School vandalism, truancy and gang activity has decreased. Relations between community groups have improved. Students have developed a more positive outlook toward law enforcement and their community. The D.A.R.E. program is a partnership consisting of law enforcement, school and parents. Without all three components working together, the program will not work. That is why we need your help. When your child brings home D.A.R.E. literature, please take the time to read it with them. Reinforcement will continue to make the program the success that it is. |
