UNDERSHERIFF

 

UnderSheriff William Heyne grew up in Sonora and graduated from Sonora High in 1980. In 1984 he attended the Modesto Academy and then was hired as a Custodial Officer with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department. In 1987 he was sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff Coroner assigned to Patrol. In 1990 he became the Sheriff’s Office Gang Officer assigned to Detectives. In 1994 he was reassigned to the Crimes Against Children’s Unit where he worked child abuse investigations. In 1995 he was reassigned to the Crimes Against Persons/Homicide where he remained for 5 years. In 2000 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and returned to the Patrol Division. Approximately 10 months later he was assigned back to supervise the Crimes Against Person/Homicide Unit. In February 2004 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned to the Records Division of the Sheriff’s Office and later that year he was assigned as the Commander of the Investigations Bureau.  As a Lieutenant, he served as the Administrative Lieutenant overseeing Human Resources, Training/Recruitment, Background Investigations, Internal Affairs, and the Injury Management Coordinator, Records Bureau Commander and Property and Evidence Manager and commander of Patrol Operations.  In August 2006, he was promoted to Assistant Sheriff and in March 2007 he became the UnderSheriff.
