What's this about?
A teenage girl is shot and
killed in a drive-by shooting at a community park. Sheriff's deputies seize
dozens of handguns and a submachine gun from local gang members. Already
this year, a majority of the 27 homicides in Stanislaus County are gang
related.
An exclusive behind-the-scenes
documentary on the escalating gang problem in Stanislaus County has been
released to the public.
The 30-minute production includes in-depth interviews with local leaders;
police officials; prosecutors, an ex-gang member from Modesto and a mother
who watched as her daughter became a gang member and tragically overdosed on
Methamphetamine.
The documentary, called “On the Front Line: Gangs, Guns &
Violence,” is a public awareness and educational effort by the
Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department. It includes graphic pictures
of gang violence and candid insight from local law enforcement officers
struggling to get a handle on escalating gang tensions in Stanislaus County.
The Sheriff’s Department first aired the documentary Wednesday, August
18th on the countywide Government Cable Channel.

This document discusses the
history of California-based gangs, and will help you identify types of gangs
and signs of gang involvement. This booklet includes information on what you
and your community can do to prevent and decrease gang activity. It is
designed to answer key questions about why kids join gangs and the types of
gang activities in which they may be involved. It suggests actions that
concerned individuals, parents, educators, law enforcement, community
members and local government officials can take and provides additional
resource information.
